The Client
Global Energy Ventures LTD is a developer of integrated marine CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) projects around the world.
The Brief
Global Energy Ventures LTD developed an innovative and revolutionary compressed natural gas storage system. CMDL, in collaboration with GEV, developed several naval architectural and marine engineering unique aspects for this novel vessel design that contributed to the ABS Design Approval obtained in January 2019.
The Design
The 190m, 200mm SCF vessel, also known as CNG-O-200, was entirely designed around the storage system developed and patented by Australia’s Global Energy Ventures (GEV).
The storage system design calls for the use of high-strength steel pipes running the entire length of the cargo hold. CMDL developed a novel hull subdivision scheme to meet and exceed applicable stability standards while still providing two uninterrupted cargo holds.
CMDL worked closely with GEV’s technical team based in Calgary, AB, and the American Bureau of Shipping at their Houston’s office to deal with all structural and stability challenges that a novel design poses.
As far as overall dimensions and powering go, the CNG-O-200 can be compared to a MR Tanker or Handymax Bulkcarrier.
The Vessel is powered by a Dual-Fuel Engine to take advantage of the Natural Gas transported.
The owner is in the final negotiation phase with two major Asian shipyards for the construction of the vessel(s).
